Who We Are

HOPE FOR THE HOPELESS

HOPE FOR THE HOPELESS is a Chennai (South India) based non-profit organisation dedicated to uplifting of the underprivileged members of our society through various hands-on projects and initiatives.

Originally founded by Milton Peters and Patti Peters, the organisation began providing necessities in monthly provisions, as well as other amenities including cots, mattresses, pillows etc., to a few families initially. To fully establish their initiative, they started asking their friends and family for donations and found themselves overwhelmed by the generosity extended to them. The number of underprivileged families receiving aid began to increase and it became clear that they needed to expand their project and were looking for motivated and compassionate individuals to take the project forward.

A few friends came forward and helped them register “Hope for the Hopeless” as a full-fledged Trust in 2009. They sure had to overcome numerous hurdles to create a well-established foundation in the years that followed.

Families situated in the slums of Chennai are burdened with much hardship, especially the mothers who work as housemaids or as daily wage labourers in order to care for their children, as there is minimal or no support from the father. HFTH seeks out such families and provides aid through several measures including donating basic provisions, medical assistance, and teaching women the necessary skills to become self-sufficient.

HFTH also endeavors to sponsor the education of at least one child in a family. Educating underprivileged children is our priority and we are now able to help and sponsor over a hundred children–some who are even pursuing higher studies and are currently enrolled in college. Some have graduated and are employed in a managerial cadre. In addition, the boarding fees for some children in the rural parts of Tamil Nadu are also borne by us.

When festive seasons come around, we undertake special projects, host annual get-togethers and give away gifts to all our sponsored families.

While our mission statement is "To Serve with Love", we strongly believe in the words of Mother Teresa "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love"

We request you to come forward to support our underprivileged brothers and sisters in dire need by making a small donation.

All donations are eligible for exemption under section 80G of the I.T. Act 1961. We are also registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010

Note: Our Trust is located in Kilpauk, Chennai and we do not have any branches. Neither are we affiliated to any other Trust or NGO operating in Chennai under similar names, or anywhere else in India or abroad.
